The drive was smooth with two quick breaks, but Istanbul\u2019s city traffic caught us off-guard in the last stretch. We crossed the iconic Bosphorus Bridge from the Asian to the European side, a symbolic end to our road trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the flurry of navigating traffic, we forgot to refill the fuel tank \u2014 a rookie mistake that cost us a hefty penalty. Though the car return process at Avec Levent was otherwise smooth, communication with the staff was a bit of a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfe8 Checking Into Comfort: Artisan Istanbul MGallery<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A short taxi ride from Levent brought us to our hotel: <strong>Artisan Istanbul MGallery<\/strong>, nestled in the heart of the city just 800 meters from the buzzing Istiklal Street. Part of the Accor group, this stay was our most luxurious yet \u2014 and thanks to our Accor points, we paid a fraction of the usual price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our room was enormous, with plush interiors and a bathroom that felt more like a spa. The comfort was much needed after a week on the road. That evening, we took a leisurely walk down <strong>Istiklal Street<\/strong>, soaking in its vibrant nightlife and the iconic red tram rolling down the cobblestones. Energized, we were ready to dive into centuries of history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfdb\ufe0f Hagia Sophia \u2013 Where Time Stands Still<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Our first stop was the <strong>Hagia Sophia<\/strong>, where we joined an external guided tour included in our Klook Pass. Standing beneath its colossal dome, surrounded by mosaics, minarets, and marble, we felt transported across time \u2014 from Byzantine basilica to Ottoman mosque and now back to a working mosque that also welcomes tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Climbing to the<strong> upper gallery,<\/strong> we admired age-old Christian mosaics partially revealed beneath layers of Islamic calligraphy. Walking into the main entrance, we were awestruck. The serenity, the sheer scale, and the gentle blue hues from the Iznik tiles created an atmosphere of peaceful devotion. With over 4,000 shops spread across a maze of vibrant lanes, it was a sensory feast: glittering lanterns, handwoven carpets, spices, sweets, and much more. The mix of history, craftsmanship, and chaos made it an unforgettable experience. We picked up a few souvenirs \u2014 Fridge magnets and Turkish delight to nibble on later. Before leaving, we treated ourselves to semolina halva served with a scoop of dondurma (Turkish ice cream) \u2014 a delicious, stretchy, slightly chewy end to a day full of iconic sights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dinner that night? Built in the 19th century, this palace stands as a symbol of the Ottoman Empire\u2019s final chapter, heavily influenced by European baroque and neoclassical design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike Topkapi, Dolmabah\u00e7e wasn\u2019t too crowded, allowing us to stroll leisurely through its ornately decorated halls. The Crystal Staircase, massive chandeliers, and gold-leafed ceilings left us speechless. The Harem section was equally fascinating, giving us insight into the private lives of the royals. We arrived in <strong>Kad\u0131k\u00f6y<\/strong> around 8 PM &#8211; late, but buzzing with life. Though time was short, we wandered through the vibrant streets and picked a family-run Middle Eastern vegan restaurant for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meal was warm, flavorful, and comforting\u2014an unexpected delight. We ended the night with coffee and dessert at a charming caf\u00e9, savoring our final few moments on the Asian continent. After breakfast and a bit of packing, we still had a few hours before we needed to leave for the airport. I took this chance to try something I\u2019d been curious about for a while\u2014a traditional <strong>Turkish hamam<\/strong> \ud83e\uddd6\u200d\u2640\ufe0f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The experience started with a short time in the sauna, followed by a full-body scrub, a foamy massage, and a final rinse. It wasn\u2019t quite like a regular spa\u2014less relaxing and more energizing\u2014but it felt amazing to check it off my list. I came out feeling fresh and ready for the journey home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back at the hotel, we finished packing and left our bags at the reception after checking out. With some time still on hand, we walked up to <strong>Istiklal Street<\/strong> one last time to soak in the atmosphere.
